The story
Ascend Tanzania began in 2010, in a small office on Lema Road in Moshi. We were six guides who had grown tired of climbing for outfitters that refused to name their porters or publish their wages.
We wanted to run a different kind of company — small, locally owned, with the people who actually walk the mountain at the centre. Sixteen years later, we're still small. Still local. Still the same people, mostly.
We've led 3,400+ summits since the first one. We've never shared a vehicle with another company on safari. We publish what we pay our porters. And we keep a maximum of three guests on any rope, because that's the only way to climb the mountain quietly.
Our office is still on Lema Road. The kettle is on. Come and meet us before, during, or after the climb.
Tanzanian-founded, Tanzanian-led. The decisions about your climb are made in Moshi, not in a foreign capital.
We do not pool you with strangers. Every climb is a single private party with its own guide, cook, and porter team.
All porters paid above KPAP fair-wage standard. Limited 20kg loads. Hot meals and shelter for the entire crew, no exceptions.
Lead guides certified Wilderness First Responders. Assistant guides serve a five-year apprenticeship before leading their first climb.
Mountain Hardwear & Kailas alpine tents. Bottled oxygen on every climb. Pulse-oximeter checks twice daily.
100% refundable deposits up to 60 days from departure. We'd rather you came when the time is right than not at all.
